Mosquito web distribution begins Tuesday | Native Information

The Department of Public Health and Social Services will start distributing mosquito nets Tuesday.

Public Health is working with the Mayors’ Council of Guam to distribute the donated mosquito nets.

Residents can pick up the nets Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 pm to 7 pm at the Astumbo Senior Citizens Center, Tamuning Gym and Agat Community Center.

Distribution of the nets will be prioritized for vulnerable populations and those living in substandard homes, or those with tin roofing/walls, no air conditioning, and no screen doors, a release from Public Health stated.

Vulnerable populations include those homeless and those living in high-risk areas for dengue fever, such as Swamp Road, Never Mind Road, CHamoru Land Trust property, and the 200-meter radius around the areas where a case of dengue fever was identified, the release stated.

Public Health said people who meet the prioritized criteria can visit one of locations at the specified dates and times to pick up a net.

Public Health last week received 5,000 mosquito nets from the CDC Foundation as part of their donation to help Guam combat dengue fever.

It is the second part of a donation from the CDC Foundation that originally included the delivery of approximately 5,000 insect repellant sprays in January.

Dengue fever is spread by the bite of mosquitoes infected with the dengue virus. The best way to prevent dengue fever is to prevent mosquito bites.
