NEMA donates aid supplies to 2,900 flood victims in Imo — Nigeria — The Guardian Nigeria Information – Nigeria and World Information
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to 2,900 flood/windstorm victims in Owerri North, Owerri West and Owerri Municipal councils of Imo State.
Items donated include 300 bags of 10 kilograms of rice, 300 bags of 10 kilograms of beans, 250 bags of 10 kilograms of garri and 100 kegs of vegetable oil.
Others are 700 pieces of mattress, 700 pieces of mosquito net and 700 pieces of blanket.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Head, Imo / Abia Operations of NEMA, Ifeanyi Nnaji, said the director-general of the agency, Mustapha Ahmed approved the gesture to ameliorate the problems encountered by the victims in the federal constituency.
He said: “NEMA undertook the assignment on behalf of the Federal Government to bring success to the victims. The approval was an outcome of the assessments carried out in their communities following the devastating effects of flood, windstorm and erosion menace in the affected LGAs in 2020.”
Receiving the items, a member representing Owerri Federal Constituency, Mr Ikenna Elezieanya, commended the agency for the gesture, stressing that recipients would benefit from the donations.
