Mosqitter’s machine kills mosquitoes with lots of glee – TechCrunch


After ridiculing a mosquito control product, I thought it was only right to highlight yet another craze-reducing technology that was showcased at CES this year. Mosqitter is an industrial-scale mosquito killing machine that attracts female mosquitoes before they can lay eggs. From there it is only a stone’s throw to send them with great serenity.

The company explains that there are four natural components that mosquitoes are attracted to before they venture on their vampiric, blood-sucking pathways: the CO2 we breathe, the heat signatures of our bodies, UV light of a certain wavelength that mammals emit, and fragrance. Mosqitter’s product uses all four to attract the creatures in different cycles in order to maximize its attraction. The company states that their product is designed to work in all weather conditions. It can be operated remotely via an app and can be operated 24/7 by adding an optional set of solar panels.

After the machine’s mosquitoes are courted, they are killed without the use of poisons.

“Mosqitter imitates a creature that attracts female mosquitoes and pulls them into the device. The results can be seen from day one. Two to three weeks later, the mosquito breeding cycle will be interrupted and the territory will be mosquito-free, ”explains the company’s COO, Olga Diachuk, before clarifying that the machine does not kill the mosquitoes directly – it has a net that lasts trapped them where they starve and / or dehydrate.

The company originally started sales in 2020 and claims to have sold more than 250 units. The company hopes to expand production in the local areas where the machines are most needed, including Italy, India and Zimbabwe. Perhaps most impressive is that the company achieved all of this on a tight budget. Since its inception in 2019, the company has operated on top of its product sales revenue with grants worth $ 85,000 from the Ukrainian startup fund and CRDF Global, and a $ 100,000 fishing check.

Mosquitter currently has three different versions of its product on the market – the smallest for home use is $ 950. A business-oriented version is $ 1,150, and there is a large-scale version for $ 2,100 that focuses on parks, local communities, and larger areas.
