MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Mandaue City has prepared the necessary things for the possible onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

Mandaue City and the entire island of Cebu were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 as of Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

Currently, the city is in Blue Alert status, which means that disaster personnel and emergency response measures are on standby.

However, Buddy Alain Ybañez, head of the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said they will switch to the red alert on Wednesday night if Odette gets any closer.

He said all of their 146 employees will be called back to be on standby.

“What if there is a red alert, the entire staff of the CDRRMO is present, although we are on duty, there will be none,” said Ybañez.

Mayor Jonas Cortes said evacuation centers have been prepared in all of the city’s barangays just in case residents, especially those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, need to be evacuated.

The Mandaue City Social Welfare and Social Service has also prepared its supply of relief supplies, including rice, canned food, mats, duvets and mosquito nets.

Cortes has ordered the CSWS and the Typhoon Emergency Operation Center to be on standby for 24 hours.

The mayor said her staff from the city’s engineering office, general service and the Mandaue Transportation Department would also be on hand in the event of an incident in the city.

Ybañez said the barangay operations team and equipment had already been checked.

He said they have already started conducting Recorida in the city’s barangays, particularly in the lower-lying areas.

The CDRRMO continues to monitor the trail of Odette in their command center.
