The government is currently distributing free long-life insecticide nets (LLINS) to the population through the Ministry of Health as part of the ongoing “under the net” campaign.
This is the third national campaign where everyone receives a free mosquito net. So far 3 waves have been completed.
According to the General Director of Health Services, Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Ministry of Health distributes mosquito nets to all Ugandans every three years with the overarching goal of reducing malaria mortality and morbidity in the country.
The next wave, the fourth in this year’s campaign, will cover the following districts: Pada, Madi Okollo, Maracha, Moyo, Nebbi, Nwoya, Obongi, Omoro, Packwach, Terego, Yumbe, Zombo, Kwania, Ssembabule, Mubende, Kassanda, Buvuma, Namayingo, Kamuli, Busia, Bugweri, Nakasongola.
Distribution is expected to begin on December 6, 2020.
The most recent net distribution exercise was on November 9th in Mityana District, Busimbi Division, a launch led by Hon Judith Nabakooba, Minister of Information and Communication Technology.
Members of the Village Health Team (VHT) took part in the start in Busimbi and demonstrated how to hang a mosquito net correctly on a bed.
