The Algarve’s health authorities have asked the local population to work together to reduce the breeding grounds for invasive mosquitoes that transmit diseases such as dengue, yellow fever or Zika, previously discovered in Loulé and Faro.

The Algarve Health Board said that there is currently no record of mosquitoes that are infected with one of these diseases in the Algarve, because even though the mosquito is found in the region, an infected copy would first bite someone, so cases are reported. The health authority has already provided training for city workers, gardeners, condominiums and local residents.
