The second wave of mosquito net distribution will start from August 9, 2020 to August 21, the Ministry of Health announced.
The Ministry of Health says this second wave will cover 28 districts, most of which are in western Uganda. The wards will include; Buhweju, Bundibugyo, Bunyangabo, Bushenyi, Isingiro, Kabarole, Kakumiro. Rukungiri, Kabale, Kiruhura, Kazo, Rubanda, Kabalagala, Kanungu, Kasese, Kisoro, Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, Lyantonde, Mbarara, Mitooma, Nakaseke, Ntoroko, Ntungamo, Rubirizi, Rukiga, Rwampala and Sheema.
Malaria remains the most deadly disease in Uganda’s population, killing nearly 16 people every day. As a result, in June this year, the Ministry of Health deregistered the logistical arm of the mosquito net campaign entitled “Under the Net” to distribute nets nationwide, starting with the districts with the highest prevalence of malaria and the affected districts with floods.
Under wave 1, which ended recently, 25 districts in eastern and northern Uganda received mosquito nets. Some of the districts include; Bududa, Bugiri, Kapchorwa, Alebtong, Amolatar, Soroti, Lira, Mbale, Kween etc.
